Dr. Md. Abdullah Al‑Mamun
Biologist · Entomologist · Cambridge Biology Educator
A research biologist with a Ph.D. in Entomology and 21 years of teaching the Cambridge (CAIE) curriculum, Dr Mamun brings real science into every Biology lesson.

From the forest floor to the Cambridge classroom
Dr. Md. Abdullah Al-Mamun is a biologist by training and a teacher by vocation. For more than two decades he has taught Cambridge (CAIE) Biology in Dhaka, helping students from Class VIII to A2 understand living systems the way a working scientist does: through careful observation, clear reasoning and genuine curiosity.
His path in biology began with a B.Sc. (Honours) in Zoology, followed by an M.Sc. and a Ph.D. in Entomology specialising in insect biodiversity. His published research, much of it with the Environmental Biology & Biodiversity Laboratory (EBBL) at the University of Dhaka, studies the butterflies of Bangladesh's forests: how species can be identified from their wing venation, how they depend on their host and nectar plants, and how their populations change with the seasons.
That work earned him two competitive scholarships: the EGIDE scholarship from the Government of France and the NSICT scholarship from the Government of Bangladesh. He completed higher research training at Angers University, France, and has published 12 papers in national and international journals.
In the classroom, Dr Mamun has spent 21 years with the Cambridge curriculum. He is CAIE Stage-1 and Stage-2 trained in A Level Biology and is currently a Senior Teacher of A Level Biology at Sunnydale. He previously served as Head of Biology and Head of Academics at Cardiff International School Dhaka, and as a Senior Teacher of A Level Biology at Oxford International School.
He remains active in science and conservation as a Senior Scientist at EBBL, an assessor for the IUCN Red List, Vice Chairman of the Biodiversity Conservation Trust Foundation (BCTF) and a Life Member of the Zoological Society of Bangladesh, which keeps his teaching connected to current research.
